LLH LikHandog SY24-25

LikHandog offers families a chance to engage children in crafting and developing entrepreneurial skills—all in support of a meaningful cause. Profits from sales will go towards building the LLH LikHandog Community Libraries, in partnership with the year’s chosen NGOs.

LLH established LikHandog as an annual school tradition, celebrating creativity, community, and social impact. To learn more about LikHandog’s origins, please watch our recorded session HERE.

In the video, Gina also shares ideas for handicrafts that families can create together, as well as other options like cooking, baking, or offering services for LikHandog.

Charlotte Mason On Handicrafts

In engaging our children on creating handicrafts, let us be guided by Charlotte Mason herself:

Principles of Handicraft

“The points to be born in mind in children’s handicrafts are:

a) that they should not be employed in making futilities such as pea and stick work, paper-mats and the like;

     [Handicrafts are to be useful and teach the child a skill.]

b) that they should be taught slowly and carefully what they should do;

     [Children should be taught slowly and carefully. Moving too quickly can make the child frustrated and want to give up easily. The goal is to enjoy the process.]

c) that slipshod work should not be allowed;

     [Sloppy work should not be accepted. Encourage your child to do his best work.]

d) and, that, therefore, the children’s work should be kept well within their compass.” (Vol. 1, pp. 315-316)

     [Make sure the handicraft is appropriate for your child’s age and skill level.]

Guidelines

Creating the Handicrafts

The students may create the handicrafts:

– By themselves as individuals
– With their parents and siblings as a family, and/or
– With their cluster-mates as a family cluster.

Here are some suggestions on how you can create the handicrafts as a cluster:

– You may collaborate with one another by learning ONE handicraft skill and, thereby, produce similar products, OR
– You may decide on making related products that can be sold together as one package.

For example: You can craft everything kitchen-related: one family will bake cookies, another will make doilies, another will make a container for utensils, and so on.

The cluster does not need to have ALL families collaborate on one project—some may opt to join the group project, while some may choose to make their own. Moreover, families may join the group project, and still sell individual handicrafts made by their kids.

Pricing & Promotion

To empower everyone’s entrepreneurial spirit, participants will have full freedom in setting reasonable prices and promoting their items as they see fit.

As a gentle reminder, please keep in mind that each endeavor will carry the LLH name and support our cause, so we encourage thoughtfulness and alignment with our shared values. Let’s make this a meaningful experience, showcasing the unique talents of our community while supporting a cause that’s close to all our hearts!
